Govardhan Puja remembers Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan hill to shelter the people of Vrindavan from Indra's storms. A hill of cow-dung is shaped and worshipped, and an Annakut — a 'mountain of food' of many dishes — is offered to Krishna, especially in Braj, Mathura and Vrindavan.
Govardhan Puja is kept on Kartik Shukla Pratipada, usually the day after Diwali, with a morning and an evening muhurat.
