Diwali, the festival of lights, celebrates Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya and welcomes Goddess Lakshmi into every home on the darkest night of Kartik. The Lakshmi–Ganesh puja is its centre, and almanacs time it to Pradosh Kaal with the fixed sign Vrishabha rising, so that the Goddess's blessing stays.
Diwali is kept on the day Amavasya holds during Pradosh Kaal, the first fifth of the night after sunset.
The most auspicious time is where three conditions meet: Pradosh Kaal, Vrishabha (a fixed sign) on the ascendant, and Amavasya still in force. That overlap is the puja muhurat on this page. Pradosh Kaal alone is also shown, for families who follow it.
Dhanteras, Naraka Chaturdashi (Chhoti Diwali), Lakshmi Puja on Amavasya, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj. In some years a tithi falls between two sunrises, and the sequence stretches or shrinks by a day — the dates on these pages follow the tithi, not a fixed count.
